Will Hollywood Learn?

City Journal Autumn 2005 | Conservatives in Hollywood?! The movies that make money are mostly PG and G rated, have a life-afirming message that includes (usually) what one might call a traditional world view. Families are important. Duty is important. Honor is important. Some things are worth fighting for.

Look at some of the great money-makers of recent times.

Lord of the Rings. It is worthwhile to fight against oppression even in the face of great odds. Some enemies cannot be fought with appeasement. ("Those without swords, may still die upon them.")

The Incredibles. When everyone is special, no one is special. Family is important. Lawyers will destroy the best of us.

Spiderman-2. Duty is often more important than happiness.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Love and Family are important. Being true to yourself without letting go of tradition is important.

There are of course more. The article also talks about some recent flops.

There is hope that Hollywood will get it as many of the younger generation are closet Republicans. Anyway go take a look at the whole thing. It is interesting. [via ProfessorBainbridge]
