This is my favorite scene from the movie... though it really takes about 35 seconds to get to the scene.

Blade

OK I always loved the original Blade film. I didn't see it in the theater, but as soon as I saw it, I fell in love with the whole genre of comicbook movies. I don't think I saw Blade one until the 2nd one came out.

The 2nd movie was a great sequel.

The third movie, was panned by the critics. In fact they said that the movie revolved around people other than Blade. But I finally saw this movie on DVD, and I didn't see that at all. There is even an Easter Egg at the end of the film that implies Blade is heading off to continue his work. But the main fight includes Blade, and - of course - the main villian is killed by Blade.

I thought Blade three was a good movie. Maybe not as good as Blade one, but still worth a look.

Wait for the Dust to Setlle

Samsung's Combo HD DVD/Blu-ray Player? - Gizmodo I've written before that Sony should have learned its lesson with Betamax video tape - they didn't. But at least some help may be on the horizon... a player that plays both formats.
That’s the best reason yet to wait before buying into any of these two overpriced and underperforming HD disc formats.

Boat Status

After much procrastination finally started on the paint part of the painting project. I had been patching and sanding.

Now I have section the cabin roof to cutout and re-core. The plywood core is in bad shape in one section. Not huge, and better to do it now before I try to paint that section.

Boat Status

Am currnetly pulling all of the hardware off the deck, patching and sanding as I go, to get ready for paint.

The decks were painted previously with one-part polyureathane, so I will using that as well.

The traveller will be upgraded, and I am going to finally install the remote mic for the VHF radio.

I am trying to figure out how to fund the purchase of an auto pilot. I would like to go with RayMarine electronics and a Lewmar chain drive system, but I will probably end up with a Simrad wheelpilot. ($2300 versus $800 - not to hard to see what will happen.)

I should get a digital camera and post photos, but I doubt that will happen.

Well they didn't include Lexx... or Blake's 7 (I'm actually glad about that).

You scored as Serenity (from Firefly). You like to live your own way and do not enjoy when anyone but a friend tries to tell you that you should do different. Now if only the Reavers would quit trying to skin you.

A Disappointing Harry Potter

I know everyone is going on about how great this movie is, but on one very important level, I found it lacking. I suppose there was no way it was going to live up to the hype.

Oh, the action was incredible. I particular liked the fight with the dragon. The underwater task was OK. I thought the maze at the end was bit weak by comparison. The visual effects were superb. That isn't what I was looking for, or it wasn't what I was hoping for to the exclusion of all else.

The real problem was that there was almost no story in the movie. If I hadn't already read the book, I'm not sure any of it would have made sense. Also some of the things that were left in, but left unexplained. Why include Rita Skeeter, but leave out the fact that she is supposed be an animagus. That is major plot item in the next book, since she is an illegal animagus and Hermione uses that fact to get her to blackmail her. The stories written by Skeeter were the basis for the attacks on Harry by the ministry, in Order of the Phoenix. Why include the fact that Olympia Maxine is half-giant (or at least that she is as tall as Hagrid) without really including that in the story. If you were going to drop the whole giant subplot, why leave her as being 12 feet tall? The relationship between Krum and Hermione is only touched on, as is Ron's reaction, though it is probably enough to keep that story line alive.

Warning: spoiler... The prize money was dropped from the story line, so Harry could not give the prize money - which he didn't want after Cedric's Death - to the Weasley twins to finance the Joke Shop. This is a major element of Order of the Phoenix, so what happens to that?

The lack of most story lines was disappointing to say the least. If I wanted to see a movie that consisted completely of special effects, with a minimal story that didn't seem to make much sense, I would have rented one of the Star Wars DVDs.

What a Ship Is

That's what a ship is, you know? It's not just a crew and a hull and a deck and sails, that's what a ship needs, not what a ship is. What the Black Pearl *really* is... is freedom.
